Devils Tower

The Sioux call it mateo tepee, or “Lodge of the Grizzly.” Devils Tower suits the place just fine. If you’ve never heard of this geological wonder, Devils Tower is a massive column of rock over 850 feet high with a base around 1,000 feet in diameter. The tower gets its Indian name from the vertical grooves that cover its sides. The legend goes that a gigantic grizzly chased several Indians to the top of the tower and tried to climb up, making the grooves with its horrible claws.
